Why Choose Our Laser Pigmentation Removal

Medical-grade IPL

We use the Lynton Lumina, a medical-grade IPL system. Its light is absorbed by the excess pigment in a brown mark.

Face, hands and body

We treat marks on the face, the backs of the hands and other areas that have seen a lot of sun.

Doctor-led care

Treatment follows doctors’ protocols, with your skin type and medical history checked before we start.

How it works

  1. Free consultation and skin assessment
  2. A personalised plan and a clear price
  3. One to three sessions for a single mark, or three to five for a larger area

Sun spots, age spots and patches of uneven colour build up slowly, usually on the face and the backs of the hands, and make-up only hides them for the day. At our Llanelli clinic we use IPL to fade them and even out your skin tone, from £30 a session.

Cowell St Skin & Hair Clinic is in the centre of Llanelli. We are a doctor-led clinic registered with Healthcare Inspectorate Wales, and we have been treating clients since 2016.

Every client starts with a free consultation. There’s no pressure and no sales pitch, just an honest view of what treatment can and can’t do for you.

What Is Pigmentation?

Pigmentation is the name for areas where the skin has produced more melanin, its natural colouring, than the skin around it. The result is a flat brown mark or patch.

The most common cause is sun exposure over many years, which is why marks tend to appear on the face, hands, chest and shoulders. They are often called sun spots, age spots or liver spots.

How Laser Pigmentation Removal Works

We treat pigmentation with intense pulsed light (IPL) from the Lynton Lumina. The light passes into the skin, is absorbed by the melanin in the mark and turns to heat, which breaks the pigment down.

The pigmentation darkens at first. Over the following days and weeks your body clears it away, and the mark fades or flakes off.

Because the light is absorbed mainly by the darker pigment, the surrounding skin is largely unaffected.

Who Is It Suitable For?

IPL works best on clearly defined brown marks caused by sun exposure, such as sun spots and age spots. Tanned skin cannot be treated, and that includes fake tan.

We do not treat melasma, the patchy pigmentation often linked to hormones, as it does not respond well to this kind of treatment.

We check your skin type and medical history at the consultation, look closely at the marks you want treated, and tell you honestly what result to expect. If a mark needs to be seen by your GP first, we will say so.

Other Treatments for Skin Tone

If uneven tone comes with fine lines, open pores or dullness, laser skin rejuvenation treats the whole face. For redness and visible veins, see thread vein removal. We will tell you at your consultation which is the best fit.

What You Can Expect from Treatment

  • A comfortable treatment: most people feel warmth or a brief, mild sting, which is usually well tolerated
  • Little downtime: some redness is normal afterwards and settles within hours
  • Marks darken first: the pigmentation initially darkens before it fades or flakes away
  • Gradual fading: skin tone evens out over the weeks after each session
  • A short course: a single mark typically needs one to three sessions, and a larger area three to five
  • Honest advice: if another treatment would suit your skin better, we’ll tell you before you start

Your Free Consultation

Your first visit is a proper assessment. We look at the marks you want treated, check your skin type and ask about your medical history and any medication.

You’ll leave knowing whether treatment is suitable, how many sessions we recommend and what it will cost. There’s no obligation to go ahead.

Laser Pigmentation Removal Prices

Pigmentation removal starts from £30 per session. The price depends on the size of the area being treated, and we confirm it at your free consultation, before any treatment. You pay per session.

Before and After Your Treatment

Before you come in

  • Avoid sun, sunbeds and fake tan on the area for four weeks beforehand. Tanned skin cannot be treated.
  • Arrive with clean skin: no make-up, perfume or creams on the area.
  • Tell us about any medication you are taking, as some can make skin more sensitive to light.

After each session

  • Some redness is normal and settles within hours.
  • Avoid heat for 24 to 48 hours, including hot baths, hot showers, saunas and excessive exercise.
  • Apply aloe vera gel three to four times a day to soothe the skin and help it heal.
  • Keep the area out of the sun for four weeks, or apply SPF 50 regularly.
  • Do not pick or scratch the treated area, even if a mark darkens or flakes.

You’ll be given aftercare advice to take home, and you can call us with any questions.

Laser Pigmentation Removal in Llanelli: Your Questions Answered

How much does laser pigmentation removal cost?

Prices start from £30 per session and depend on the size of the area. We confirm your price at the free consultation, before any treatment, and you pay per session.

Does it hurt?

Most people do not find it painful. You may feel warmth or a brief, mild sting during the treatment, which is usually well tolerated.

How many sessions will I need?

A single mark typically needs one to three sessions. A larger area usually needs three to five. We’ll give you an estimate at the consultation.

Will the pigmentation come back?

Treated marks can stay away for a long time, but new ones can form with more sun exposure. Using a high-factor sunscreen every day is the best way to keep your results.

Is it suitable for my skin?

We check at the consultation. Tanned skin cannot be treated, including fake tan, and not every type of brown mark is suitable. We’ll tell you honestly what to expect.

Which areas can be treated?

The face and the backs of the hands are the most common, along with other areas that have had a lot of sun, such as the chest and shoulders.

Do you treat melasma?

No. Melasma does not respond well to IPL, so we do not treat it. If you are not sure what kind of pigmentation you have, we can look at it at a free consultation.

Why does the mark look darker after treatment?

That is expected. The pigmentation initially darkens as it breaks down, then fades or flakes away as the skin heals. Do not pick at it.
