If you are tired of shaving, waxing or plucking, laser hair removal offers a long-term alternative. At Cowell St Skin & Hair Clinic we have been treating unwanted hair in Llanelli since 2016.
We are a doctor-led clinic registered with Healthcare Inspectorate Wales. We use medical-grade IPL and laser systems, including the Lynton Lumina, and select the right one for your skin and hair.
Every client starts with a free consultation and patch test. There’s no pressure and no sales pitch, just clear advice on what you can expect.
The laser or IPL sends pulses of light into the skin. The pigment in each hair absorbs that light and turns it into heat, which damages the follicle so it produces finer hair or stops growing hair altogether.
Hair grows in cycles, and only hairs in the active growth phase respond. That is why you need a course of sessions rather than a single visit. Most people need six to eight treatments, usually four to six weeks apart for the face and a little longer for the body.
After a full course, most clients keep the results with an occasional maintenance session.
Our systems can treat all skin types. For darker skin we use a YAG laser, which is the safest and most effective choice for those skin tones.
Laser works on hair with pigment in it: black, brown, light brown, red and dark blonde. It is not suitable for light blonde, grey or white hair, because there is too little pigment for the light to target. We will tell you honestly at your consultation if we do not think you will get a good result.
Recently tanned skin cannot be treated, including fake tan, so the autumn and winter months are an ideal time to start.
Your first visit is a proper assessment. We look at your skin type and hair colour, ask about your medical history and any medication, and talk through the areas you want treated.
We then carry out a patch test, which shows how your skin responds and helps us choose the right system and settings. You’ll leave with a recommended number of sessions and a clear price.
There’s no obligation to go ahead. If you do, we’ll book your first session at a time that suits you.
To secure your appointment we take a £30 deposit. It comes off the price of your treatment, or we refund it in full if you decide not to go ahead. Please read our cancellation policy before you book.

Most people describe a brief, mild sting or a warm flick against the skin. It is usually well tolerated, and we cool the skin as we work. Sensitive areas can feel sharper, and we adjust settings to keep you comfortable.

Shave the area the day before, avoid waxing or plucking for four weeks, and keep the area out of the sun, with no sunbeds or fake tan, for four weeks before treatment.
