Boxcar scars have sharp, vertical edges and a sunken appearance, and usually follow moderate to severe acne.
Rolling scars give the skin a wave-like, uneven surface. They are caused by damage to the connective tissue under the skin.
Ice pick scars are small, deep holes in the skin.
Hypertrophic scars are raised, thickened scars caused by too much collagen, and are often red or darker than the skin around them.
The best treatment depends on the type and severity of your scars, which we assess at your consultation.
We treat acne scars with the ResurFace, a fractional erbium YAG laser. It splits the laser into thousands of microscopic beams, so only a fraction of the skin is treated and the tissue in between is left untouched.
Each beam creates a tiny column of controlled heat in the skin, which breaks down scar tissue and triggers the body’s natural healing response.
As the skin repairs, it produces new collagen. That new collagen helps to fill in the scars, leaving the skin smoother and more even.
Laser treatment improves the appearance of acne scars and skin texture. It does not usually remove scars completely, and results vary from person to person.
Most people need three to six sessions to see a significant improvement. We will give you an honest view of what to expect at your consultation, before you commit to anything.
Tanned skin cannot be treated, and that includes fake tan.
