We confirm the lesion is a wart and suitable for freezing before any treatment.

How it works

  1. Free consultation and skin assessment
  2. A clear price before treatment
  3. Prepare the wart at home, then CryoPen freezing in seconds

Warts and verrucae are small, rough growths on the skin caused by a virus. They are common and usually harmless, but many people want them gone because of how they look or because they catch and get in the way. If you live in Ammanford and want one removed, we freeze warts and verrucae with the CryoPen at our clinic in Llanelli.

Cowell St Skin & Hair Clinic is in the centre of Llanelli. We are a doctor-led clinic registered with Healthcare Inspectorate Wales, and we have been treating clients since 2016.

Every client starts with a free consultation. There’s no pressure and no sales pitch, just an honest view of what treatment can and can’t do for you.

What Are Warts and Verrucae?

Yes. Verrucae are warts on the soles of the feet, and we treat them with the CryoPen in exactly the same way.

How CryoPen Wart Removal Works

Illustration: the CryoPen delivers a fine, precise jet of ultra-cold nitrous oxide onto the wart. The extreme cold turns the fluid inside its cells into sharp ice crystals, which rupture the cell walls and destroy the infected tissue, while the surrounding skin is left unharmed. The treated wart then darkens, dries and falls away, usually within one to four weeks. Larger warts and verrucae may need a second freeze if still present after four weeks. © Cowell St Skin & Hair Clinic.

We use the CryoPen to freeze warts and verrucae with a fine jet of nitrous oxide. It takes just seconds.

The jet is precise, so only the wart is treated and the surrounding skin is unaffected. No cutting, stitches or anaesthetic are needed. A short period of itching, around 10 minutes, is normal afterwards.

What Results to Expect

Most treated warts and verrucae fall off within 1 to 4 weeks. Many need only one treatment, while larger ones may need two. If it’s still there after 4 weeks, a second freeze is needed. Occasionally a new wart appears, as they are caused by a virus.

Possible Side Effects

CryoPen treatment carries a low risk, and most side effects are minor. Occasionally a blister forms on the treated area; it’s less common with the CryoPen because only the wart is frozen, and it settles without help.

The healed skin may be slightly lighter or darker than the surrounding area for a few months, sometimes longer. Rarely, freezing near nerves close to the surface, such as on the fingers, causes temporary numbness or tingling, and on areas of coarse hair the follicles can be affected. We explain all of this before treatment.

What You Can Expect from Treatment

  • Fast treatment: a few seconds per wart or verruca
  • Manageable sensation: a cold sting followed by about 10 minutes of itching
  • How many treatments: often one, though larger lesions may need two
  • Healing time: the wart should drop off within 1 to 4 weeks
  • Zero downtime: you can return to normal activities immediately
  • Clear advice: we check suitability before any freezing

Before and After Your Treatment

Before you come in

  • One month before your first treatment, start preparing the wart or verruca in one of two ways: apply Salactol, following the product instructions carefully, or cover the whole lesion with zinc oxide tape.
  • The night before your appointment, soak the area in warm water for 20 minutes.
  • After soaking, gently remove all the hard skin from the lesion with a pumice stone or a file. All of the hard skin needs to come off for the treatment to work well.
  • Stop using Salactol or zinc oxide tape straight after your first treatment.
  • Before each further treatment, soak the area in warm water for 20 minutes and gently remove the hard skin again.
  • Tell us about any medication you take and any medical conditions, particularly anything affecting circulation or healing.

After each session

  • Do not pick the treated area at any time. Picking makes it take longer to heal.
  • If a scab is knocked off by accident, healing takes longer, but the result should be the same.
  • If a blister appears, leave it alone and do not pop it. It will go down by itself.
  • If a blister does pop and the area weeps, use an antiseptic cream such as Savlon or Germolene twice a day, and cover it with a plaster if you wish.
  • You can also use antiseptic cream if the area becomes tender.
  • If the wart or verruca is still there after 4 weeks, contact us about a second freeze.

You’ll be given aftercare advice to take home, and you can call us with any questions.

Wart Removal near Ammanford: Your Questions Answered

How much does wart removal cost?

Wart removal starts from £50. The price depends on the number of warts, and we confirm it at your free consultation, before any treatment.

Do you treat verrucae?

Yes. A verruca is a wart on the sole of the foot, and we freeze verrucae with the CryoPen in the same way.

Do I need to prepare before treatment?

Preparation helps. Use Salactol or zinc oxide tape for a month beforehand, and the night before, soak the wart for 20 minutes and file away the hard skin gently.

Does CryoPen wart removal hurt?

Most people feel a quick cold sting lasting a few seconds, with some itching for around 10 minutes afterwards.

How many treatments will I need?

Usually one or two. Larger lesions commonly need a second freeze after 4 weeks.

How long does it take for the wart to fall off?

A treated wart or verruca should fall off within 1 to 4 weeks.

What if I get a blister?

Don’t burst it. Let it settle naturally. If it breaks, use an antiseptic cream twice daily and keep it covered with a plaster.

Can the wart come back?

It can. Warts are caused by a virus, so occasionally one returns or a new one appears elsewhere.

Is there any downtime?

None. You can go back to work or your day straight away.
