Why Choose Our Wart Removal

CryoPen precision

The CryoPen delivers a fine jet of nitrous oxide that freezes the wart while leaving the healthy skin around it alone.

No cutting or stitches

Freezing is non-invasive, so there are no incisions and you can carry on with your day straight afterwards.

Doctor-led care

We check the lesion is a wart and suitable for freezing before any treatment goes ahead.

How it works

  1. Free consultation and skin assessment
  2. A clear price before treatment
  3. Prepare the wart at home, then CryoPen freezing in seconds

Warts and verrucae are small, rough growths on the skin caused by a virus. They are common and usually harmless, but many people want them gone because of how they look or because they catch and get in the way. If you live in Port Talbot and want one removed, we freeze warts and verrucae with the CryoPen at our clinic in Llanelli.

Cowell St Skin & Hair Clinic is in the centre of Llanelli. We are a doctor-led clinic registered with Healthcare Inspectorate Wales, and we have been treating clients since 2016.

Every client starts with a free consultation. There’s no pressure and no sales pitch, just an honest view of what treatment can and can’t do for you.

What Are Warts and Verrucae?

Warts are small, rough lumps on the skin caused by a virus. They often appear on the hands and fingers. A verruca is a wart on the sole of the foot, which is pressed flat by walking and can be uncomfortable.

They are usually harmless, but they can be stubborn and can spread. Most people have them treated because of how they look, or because they catch, rub or hurt.

How CryoPen Wart Removal Works

Cryotherapy is a quick, sterile and controlled way of destroying unwanted tissue with extreme cold. The CryoPen applies a fine, high-pressure jet of nitrous oxide directly to the wart, freezing it in seconds.

Because the jet is so precise, only the wart is treated and the healthy skin around it is left alone. There is no cutting, no stitches and no anaesthetic.

Straight after treatment the area can feel itchy for about 10 minutes. This is a normal reaction and it settles by itself.

What Results to Expect

A treated wart or verruca should fall off within 1 to 4 weeks.

Many lesions need only one treatment, but larger warts and verrucae often need two. If yours is still there after 4 weeks, a second freeze is needed.

Warts are caused by a virus, so occasionally one comes back or a new one appears elsewhere.

Possible Side Effects

CryoPen treatment is low-risk and side effects are usually minor. A blister can form on the treated area. This is uncommon with the CryoPen because only the wart is frozen, and it settles by itself.

The skin can heal slightly lighter or darker than the skin around it. This usually fades over a few months, but it can last longer.

Rarely, freezing over an area where nerves sit close to the surface, such as the fingers, can cause temporary numbness or tingling. On areas with coarse hair, freezing can damage the hair follicles. We talk all of this through with you before any treatment.

What You Can Expect from Treatment

  • A few seconds per wart: the CryoPen is applied to each wart for a matter of seconds
  • Minimal discomfort: most people feel a brief cold sting, and the area can itch for about 10 minutes afterwards
  • One or two treatments: larger warts and verrucae often need a second freeze
  • Falls off in 1 to 4 weeks: the wart comes away by itself as the skin heals
  • No downtime: you can go straight back to work and your normal routine
  • Honest advice: if a lesion isn’t suitable for freezing, we’ll tell you before any treatment

Your Free Consultation

Your visit starts with a free consultation. We look at the lesion to confirm it is a wart or verruca and that freezing is the right way to treat it, and we ask about your medical history.

You’ll know what it will cost before any treatment. If we are not sure what a lesion is, we will advise you to have it checked by your GP first.

Wart Removal Prices

Wart removal starts from £50. The price depends on the number of warts, and we confirm it at your free consultation, before any treatment.

Before and After Your Treatment

Before you come in

  • One month before your first treatment, start preparing the wart or verruca in one of two ways: apply Salactol, following the product instructions carefully, or cover the whole lesion with zinc oxide tape.
  • The night before your appointment, soak the area in warm water for 20 minutes.
  • After soaking, gently remove all the hard skin from the lesion with a pumice stone or a file. All of the hard skin needs to come off for the treatment to work well.
  • Stop using Salactol or zinc oxide tape straight after your first treatment.
  • Before each further treatment, soak the area in warm water for 20 minutes and gently remove the hard skin again.
  • Tell us about any medication you take and any medical conditions, particularly anything affecting circulation or healing.

After each session

  • Do not pick the treated area at any time. Picking makes it take longer to heal.
  • If a scab is knocked off by accident, healing takes longer, but the result should be the same.
  • If a blister appears, leave it alone and do not pop it. It will go down by itself.
  • If a blister does pop and the area weeps, use an antiseptic cream such as Savlon or Germolene twice a day, and cover it with a plaster if you wish.
  • You can also use antiseptic cream if the area becomes tender.
  • If the wart or verruca is still there after 4 weeks, contact us about a second freeze.

You’ll be given aftercare advice to take home, and you can call us with any questions.
